Get the Party Started

Here’s how to plan the bachelor or bachelorette party of the century.

Looking for a spot to throw your pre-wedding bash? Here are a few options to get your wedding party pumped for the big day. (Go ahead, tear this page out and hand it to your maid of honor or best man.)

Get sauced at Sauced BBQ // by Eva Kolenko

For the Groom:

If he wants to . . . drink

Saddle up to the bar at Sauced BBQ and Spirits in Livermore or Walnut Creek. With bourbon on tap and the best Southern-style BBQ in the East Bay, Sauced is the manliest spot to get sauced.

If he wants to . . . compete

Bowling, arcade games, bocce, beer garden—Oakland’s Plank has it all. Grab a round of beers and challenge the groom to a game of billiards.

If he wants to . . . pick up a new skill

Head to Diving Dog Brewhouse in Oakland to brew your own beer. Choose from 26 recipes while drinking already–perfected pints. Since your concoction must ferment for a few weeks, you’ll go back for a bottling appointment, then take it home to enjoy with the boys.

If he wants to . . . workout

Grab 13 of your closest guys and bike around Oakland—from Independent Brewing Company to Jack London Square and back. You might not break a sweat on Velocipede Tours’s bike trolley, but you’ll earn an extra beer peddling off those calories.

For the Bride:

If she wants to . . . drink

Sip your way through Livermore’s wine country—no DD required. The Livermore Wine Trolley is a party on wheels. Hop on the trolley in downtown Livermore, and visit four wineries on this guided tour—all tastings, lunch, and groovy tunes included.

If she wants to . . . play

Sign up the bridal party for a night of vino and acrylics at Pinot’s Palette in Danville. Instructors demonstrate the painting step-by-step, then you try recreating a work of art while you sip and swirl.

If she wants to . . . pick up a new skill

Join a girls–night–out cooking class at Sur La Table in Walnut Creek, which includes cooking—and sampling—delights such as caramel and pear skillet cake.

If she wants to . . . dance

For the country-loving bride, Overland Country Bar and Grill in Oakland’s Jack London Square hosts line dancing on the third Thursday of every month. Grab your cowgirl boots and get there early, before the dance floor gets too crowded.
