Real Weddings: Colleen Jensen & Keith Murphy
Persistence Pays Off
Fairmont San Francisco, San Francisco
If Keith Murphy hadn’t been so persistent, Colleen Jensen may have never said yes.
Keith, a San Ramon native, says it was “love at first sight” when he met Colleen at Mr. Lucky’s in Walnut Creek. But for Colleen, it was Keith’s perseverance that won her heart.
“We met in November 2012. Once I finally gave him a chance, we had our first date the following June,” says Colleen, an Orange County native who moved to the Bay Area after college.
Two years after their first date, Keith proposed on Treasure Island. They had stopped to take pictures of the cityscape when Keith dropped to one knee. His brother and sister-in-law filmed the proposal, and the group celebrated with brunch at Walnut Creek’s Sunol Ridge Restaurant and Bar. (Colleen’s mom even flew up from Southern California to surprise her.)
Colleen planned an elegant wedding at the Fairmont San Francisco. “When we walked onto the 24th floor and saw the incredible views from the Crown Room, we knew we had to get married there,” says Colleen.
The wedding was black tie, with a mix of white, cream, and ivory, and accents of blush pink and gold. Toasts were made with pink champagne, the couple sat close together on a blush-studded bench at the sweetheart table, and their four-tier cake included a fondant outline of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Keith wore a pocket square created by Colleen’s mother from a piece of the bride’s dress and a locket that Colleen made for him with photos of his late grandmothers “so they could be close to his heart.”
The couple, who honeymooned in Maui, are busy remodeling their Walnut Creek home. “[We hope to] start a family and have two beautiful, healthy, and happy babies one day,” says Keith.
