Real Weddings: Julia Hu & Mark Vismonte
High School Sweethearts
The Clubhouse at Boundary Oak, Walnut Creek
Mark Vismonte and Julia Hu’s love story began in high school at Panda Express, when he asked her to be his girlfriend.
Seven years later, they celebrated their anniversary at a location a little more fitting for the occasion: The French Laundry.
They arrived at the restaurant early, and while waiting in the courtyard, a waiter brought them a covered bowl with “snacks” to munch on. Mark lifted the lid—and then Julia saw a ring. “That’s when he dropped to one knee and proposed,” says Julia. “I think I went into shock!”
Julia and Mark took that same ingenuity to their wedding, personalizing the ceremony with DIY projects—such as engraved wooden escort cards made by Mark—and signature cocktails.
“I wanted our guests to have fun,” says Julia. “It was absolutely the best to see our closest friends and family together to celebrate with us.”
Julia and Mark honeymooned in Bora Bora, staying in an over-water bungalow. “[It was] definitely the most amazing place we’ve visited so far,” says Julia.
The couple recently moved from San Francisco to New York temporarily.
